Skincare Review: A Deep Dive into Jordan Samuel Skin

Estimated reading time: 8 minutes

Jordan Samuel Skin is a skincare brand known for its straightforward and simplistically effective products. I first heard about the brand in 2018 from the infamous Caroline Hirons. Based on her rave reviews and the brand’s “less is more” skincare philosophy, I knew I needed to give it a try.

I purchased my first Jordan Samuel Skin product back in 2018 (Hydrate The Mist), and it’s been in my routine ever since.

If you follow me on Instagram or check out the products I discuss in my round-up blog posts, you’ve seen Jordan Samuel Skin products throughout my skincare routines. I couldn’t believe I didn’t have a dedicated blog post.

So, let’s talk more about the Jordan Samuel Skin brand and my current five favorites from the line.

ABOUT THE BRAND

Jordan Samuel Skin was inspired by Jordan trying to fix his skin issues. Jordan is a former dancer turned esthetician who experienced skin breakouts due to wearing heavy stage makeup while dancing under hot lights. He wanted to create skincare products that easily removed all the heavy stage makeup and maintained the skin barrier.

Jordan Samuel Skin products are beautifully effective. And they’re reasonably priced, especially for the product quality.

The skincare line currently has 13 products, and I’m looking forward to the new products coming out in 2021. And Jordan has a highly entertaining YouTube Channel where he goes into more detail about his products, and shares his skincare knowledge and skin philosophies.

MY CURRENT JORDAN SAMUEL SKIN FAVORITES

Here are my five current favorites from Jordan Samuel Skin line so far:

THE AFTER SHOW TREATMENT CLEANSER FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

TEXTURE SHOT FROM WEBSITE

Jordan and I are both fans of double cleansing.

“The first cleanse will help remove dirt and makeup at the end of the day. With that first layer of surface grime out of the way, the second cleanse is able to more effectively cleanse your skin.”

~Jordan Samuel Skin

So, it’s no surprise that this oil-based cleanser is fantastic! The After Show Treatment Cleanser comes out of the tube in a gel texture, which initially made me hesitant to try it. But, as soon as you rub it on your face, it turns into oil. It contains nourishing oils, like olive, jojoba, and grapeseed. And it gently exfoliates using sugarcane, apple, and willow bark extracts. What I love most is that it feels good while it takes all my makeup off with ease. I was so shocked at how easily this removed my mascara and stubborn eye makeup with no tugging at all!

INGREDIENTS:

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Glycerin, Aqua/Water, Sucrose Laurate, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol

When Do I Use This?

I use an oil cleanser (first cleanse) in my double cleansing routine. And I double cleanse most evenings.

SIZE:

1.0 oz. / 3.0 oz. / 8.0 oz.

PRICE:

$14.00 / $22.00 / $47.00

THE MATINEE GEL CLEANSER

TEXTURE SHOT FROM THE WEBSITE

The Matinee Gel Cleanser has been in my skincare routine for a while now now, most frequently in my spring and summer routines. This non-foaming gel cleanser has great slip and leaves my skin feeling soft and less congested. Rarely is a gel cleanser not even remotely trying.

The Matinee Gel Cleanser has some salicylic acid to help with congestion, but it isn’t an active percentage. And it’s balanced out with soothing ingredients like aloe, chamomile, and cucumber extract.

INGREDIENTS:

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Propanediol, Coconut Alkanes, Carbomer, Coco-Betaine, Water/Aqua/Eau, Decyl Glucoside, Phenoxyethanol, Salicylic Acid, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate

When Do I Use This?

I’ve used this cleanser in my morning routine and as a second cleanser in my evening routine.

SIZE:

6.0 oz.

PRICE:

$28.00

HYDRATE THE MIST

TEXTURE SHOT FROM WEBSITE

You all know I love a good face mist! And this mist feels amazing and smells like spa water!

Hydrate The Mist contains glycerin, hyaluronic acid, tamarind extract, red seaweed, and cucumber extracts, which are all incredibly hydrating, soothing and antioxidant-rich. And luckily, they updated the formula and the nozzle in 2019, so it’s is less viscous and the spray isn’t so intense.

INGREDIENTS:

Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Betaine, Propanediol, Chondrus Crispus Extract, Lithothamnion Calcareum Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Panthenol, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Passiflora Incarnata Extract, Disodium Edta, Butylene Glycol, Tamarindus Indica Fruit Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Caprylhydroxamic Acid

When Do I Use This?

I’ve used this face mist in my morning and evening routine, right before applying my hydrating serums.

SIZE:

4.0 oz.

PRICE:

$29.00

RETINOL TREATMENT OIL

TEXTURE SHOT FROM WEBSITE

I spent all 2020 working on the best way to consistently include retinol in my skincare routine. And I can say with certainty that this retinol treatment oil is super gentle. It contains 0.2% retinol encased in nourishing oils like argan, marula, cranberry seed, and sweet almond. It’s a perfect formula for retinol newbies and those that want guaranteed retinol progression without irritation.

INGREDIENTS:

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Sclerocarya birrea (Marula) Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon Seed Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Retinol, Tocopheryl Acetate, BHT.

When Do I Use This?

I use retinol face oils in my evening routine right after cleansing. And I generally apply a moisturizer on top.

I like to keep my skincare routines pretty simple on nights I use retinol products.

SIZE:

1.0 oz.

PRICE:

$43.00

THE AFTER SHOW BODY CLEANSER

This one-of-a-kind body cleanser has the same oil-based gel texture as The Aftershow Cleanser For Sensitive Skin I talked about above. The Aftershow Body Cleanser is non-lathering, non-stripping, removes sunscreen, and smells like an Italian vacation. The citrusy scent doesn’t linger either.

When you squeeze out the gel and rub it on dry skin, the texture changes to an oil. Then, when you add water, it emulsifies and turns milky.

When I get out of the shower, my skin feels soft and nourished, not dry or tight at all. As someone with dry skin, this is something I don’t come across often.

***This is the only product on my list that has essential oils. But, I have not experienced any irritation yet.

INGREDIENTS:

Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glycerin, Aqua (Water), Isopropyl Palmitate, Vegetable Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Extract, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Extract, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Peel Extract, Vanilla Planifolia (Vanilla) Fruit Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Sucrose Stearate, Palmitic Acid, Sucrose Laurate, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Phenoxyethanol, Mucor miehei Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Butylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Tocopherol, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Limonene, Linalool

When Do I Use This?

I generally use this body cleanser once or twice a week during my evening shower or bath. This is not a body cleanser I use every day because I think I would go through it too quickly.

SIZE:

8.0 oz.

PRICE:

$37.00

FINAL THOUGHTS

I love Jordan! I mean, we both love good skincare, martinis, and oysters! His skincare products are well-formulated, and most contain ingredients that wouldn’t irritate someone with sensitive skin. And every formula I’ve discussed above has been gentle and feels good to apply.

I also invite you to watch Jordan and our incredible #winedownwednesday chat with Jordan below, where we talk about his brand and the launch of his new body cleanser. Check it out!
