For a long time, body care wasn’t a particularly sexy part of your skincare experience. They were just considered daily necessities. But that’s quickly changed. We’re in an era focused on self-care and using clean, sustainable products. So, it’s no wonder that body care is becoming a more important part of skincare routines. It’s also why Necessaire has become one of the hottest body care brands on the market.
Whether you’ve seen Necessaire’s products in your social media feed or they’re currently on your nightstand, you can’t help but be drawn to their luxurious yet minimalistic packaging. And the idea of skin-care-level ingredients without alcohol, silicone, and fragrance-free options is highly alluring to me.
I mean, look at this photo! Who wouldn’t want to include a few Necessaire products in their body care routine?
About the Brand
The line was founded in November 2018 by Into the Gloss co-founder, Nick Axelrod, and former Esteé Lauder executive, Randi Christiansen. The brand uses recycled boxes and paper for its packaging and mailers. They also only work with FSC-certified companies, which means Necessaire only works with companies that are eco-friendly and protect the forest.
So, here’s my honest review of the Necessaire line. This review is based on my personal experience and my analysis of the ingredients. AND…Let me preface this review by saying that this NYC winter has been ruining my skin. As you know, I’ve had eczema since I was a teenager and ever since I could remember I’ve had the driest legs in the world.
Necessaire Review – The Body Wash
When I lather myself in Nécessaire, it’s a TRUE experience. I use the fragrance-free body wash, but the body wash is also available in Eucalyptus and Sandlewood.
The formula doesn’t contain any sulfates, parabens, or synthetic dyes. And this body wash uses gentle plant-derived surfactants instead of harsher, frothier alternatives.
Personally, would describe this body wash as invigorating, in every sense of the word. I love the gel-oil hybrid texture, how much it lathers, and how soft it feels on the skin. And a little goes a long way!
I also love the bottle! And there is no loose cap or hard-to-open flip top. I just turn and squeeze the bottle, which helps me not over pour or waste any product.
Now, this body wash is $22, which is pretty hefty to me for a 8.4 oz. bottle. And I never thought I’d be investing in a body wash since I have a lot of “body” to cover. But, these body washes worth every cent. From the ingredients, packaging, shower experience and how my skin feels afterward, I can only describe this as self-care when I use this.
I don’t use this shower gel every day, though. I use this body wash when I want to treat myself in the morning before work, after a good workout, or when I’m taking a long, hot shower thinking about my future LOL.

Necessaire Review – The Body Exfoliator
When I started using this set, I thought the body exfoliator would be a fun scrub, but I didn’t think it would provide any significant results.
The Body Exfoliator is both a physical and chemical exfoliator. It comes in a tube (which I prefer because there is less mess). It has a gritty consistency yet also contains chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and lactic acid to gently exfoliate the skin.
I like it! I have keratosis pilaris on my arms (non-acne bumps under the skin) for years. When I started using The Body Exfoliator, I noticed the KP became less bumpy and red. And the rest of my body feels incredibly soft after using it too.
It is pricey, though ($30). And because I tend to use a lot of the product on my body one routine, I prefer not to pay a lot of money on body care.

Necessaire Review – The Body Serum
Now, this is my first body serum. I mean, you don’t find many serums for your body.
The Body Serum is a non-greasy, fast-absorbing hydrator for your body. It has a thick, silky gel texture, and it’s made with a blend of great ingredients you might already use on your face, including hyaluronic acid, ceramides, vitamin B3, and vitamin B5. There’s no fragrance or silicone in here.
I feel the most benefit from it when I layer it with the body lotion.
I can’t rave about it, though. But, I honestly haven’t used it consistently enough to tell you it makes a difference. And because I didn’t see overnight results, I can’t justify the $45 price.

Necessaire Review – The Body Lotion
Since I have dry skin and I live in a cold, dry climate, I tend to stick to body butters instead of lotions, especially in the winter. And since this isn’t a thick cream, I honestly expected my skin to dry out. Sorry, Necessaire.
The Body Lotion uses ingredients like Vitamin A, Vitamin B3, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omega 6, Omega 9, and Niacinamide to keep the skin healthy. The texture has a bouncy, full texture, but it absorbs very quickly and doesn’t have a greasy lotion feel. I mean, we all hate that texture!
And I feel like it makes a difference on my skin. It’s not the type of moisturizer that leaves you still feeling dry after you wash it off. But, in the winter, I apply body oil afterward.
My first tube lasted me about a month when I used consistently (again, I have a lot of “body” to cover!). And it retails for $25.

Necessaire Review – The Body Oil
Since I have dry skin and I live in a cold, dry climate, I tend to stick to body butters instead of lotions, especially in the winter. And while I would use the body lotion only in the spring and summer, I’m happy to mix the body oil with the lotion in the winter for a more emollient formula.
The Body Oil is a fragrance-free oil made ONLY from plant oils! There are no filler ingredients. The formula is rich in Vitamin B7, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omega-6, Omega-7, Omega-9, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and Zinc. The Body Oil is meant to restore, nourish, and soften skin.

I think Necessaire has an excellent body care line. I love how the brand is actually treating body care like we do face care. And having a fragrance-free option makes it a great brand option for me. I would repurchase this! But, given the price and how much product I use in one body care routine, this wouldn’t be my daily cleansing option.
