Bioeffect’s Innovative Skincare

Back in June, I had the pleasure of attending Bioeffect’s Summer Skincare Soiree. During this beautiful rooftop cocktail event, I was introduced to Bioeffect’s EGF Serum and eye treatment masks.

This past October, I attended their holiday preview event. And I was thrilled to meet the co-founder, learn more about their product line and hear about the brand’s plans for 2020. It was lovely to get a skin analysis too. 🙂

As background, Bioeffect was founded by three Icelandic scientists who discovered a means of bioengineering a replica of human Epidermal Growth Factors (EGF).

And while Bioeffect’s competitors grow EGF in bacteria (which is a controversial issue), Bioeffect has bio-engineered a plant-based replica (using barley), making it safer for people, especially people with psoriasis and/or pre-cancerous skin cells. This major scientific breakthrough is the reason why Bioeffect won a Nobel Prize in 1986.

DID YOU KNOW that after the age of 29, the level of EGF in your body rapidly declines? This leads to a loss of collagen and elastin, which results in a visible loss of skin density and firmness.

And we don’t want to see any wrinkles or sagging on this face!

So, by infusing EGF into skincare products, those products can enhance and restore your skin barrier and boost collagen production. This allows your skin to hold on to moisture better, so your skin becomes smoother and softer. And we love plump, healthy, firm skin!

Now, let’s get into some of the products from their line…

Bioeffect EGF Serum

Let me just candidly say that I’ve been using Bioeffect’s EGF Serum since June, and my skin is loving it!

On nights that I use this serum, my routine is very minimal. I double cleanse, I may apply an acid toner, I apply a hydrating mist or essence and this serum. I don’t usually use anything else afterward.

I dispense about 1 pipette onto my fingertips, and I massage it onto my face and neck. Since the serum has a silky yet somewhat oily texture, I let it absorb a little before my head hits the pillow.

Now, I can’t tell you if this serum has actually thickened my skin. I just don’t have the “high-tech” measuring instruments to determine that. But, I can tell you that the next morning, there is a noticeable difference in my skin. Not only does my face look more hydrated and plump, but my skin feels smoother and looks more even-toned.

The Bioeffect EGF Serum contains only 7 plant-based ingredients, with no preservatives, fragrance, or colorants. And one of the main components is, of course, EGF.

INGREDIENTS LIST:

GLYCERIN, WATER (AQUA), SODIUM HYALURONATE, TROMETHAMINE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, BARLEY (HORDEUM VULGARE) SEED EXTRACT, EGF (BARLEY SH-OLIGOPEPTIDE-1)

Bioeffect EGF Essence

The Bioeffect EGF Essence is one of two new products from the brand.

This essence is supposed to prep skin for the EGF serum by effectively restoring your skin’s hydration levels. Because hydrated skin can better absorb skincare treatments.

Now, I haven’t been using the essence long enough to give a full review, but I can say, “So far, so good!”

It’s refreshing to apply. And it contains a high dose of humectants, which my dehydrated skin happily absorbs!

Look out for a more thorough review on a later date.

INGREDIENTS LIST:

WATER (AQUA), GLYCERIN, ISOPENTYLDIOL, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, SODIUM CITRATE, SORBITOL, PHENOXYETHANOL, SODIUM CHLORIDE, CITRIC ACID, BARLEY (HORDEUM VULGARE) SEED EXTRACT, EGF (BARLEY SH-OLIGOPEPTIDE-1)

BIOEFFECT Imprinting Hydrogel Mask

The Bioeffect Imprinting Hydrogel Masks are the second of the two new products from the brand.

I love a sheet mask! And I prefer hydrogel masks over any other material of sheet masks just because they stick to my skin well.

Now, this mask is the only Bioeffect product that doesn’t contain the brand’s proprietary EGF serum. But, it’s packed with humectants to help hydrate the skin while we seal in the EGF serum.

It’s a great addition to their line. I can see how this helps aid in making your skin super soft, healthy, hydrated, and plump after use.

INGREDIENTS LIST:

WATER (AQUA), GLYCERIN, DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, CERATONIA SILIQUA (CAROB) GUM, CHONDRUS CRISPUS POWDER, CELLULOSE GUM, SODIUM POLYACRYLATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, HYDROGENATED POLYDECENE, TRIDECETH-6, DISODIUM EDTA, SODIUM HYALURONATE

The other products I am trying out from the line:

  • EGF Day Serum
  • EGF Eye Treatment Mask
  • OSA Water Mist

I will review these 3 products (and the essence discussed above) once I have used them a little longer.

I’m also interested in trying their 30-Day Treatment and Micellar Cleansing Water.

ROUND-UP & RANKING

WOULD I REPURCHASE?

I would definitely keep the EGF serum in my arsenal! Yes, this baby is expensive, but if you’re looking to quickly hydrate, brighten, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles all at once, you should definitely give this serum a try!

I also love the EGF essence! Since a little goes a long way, I can justify the investment.

And although I enjoy the imprinting hydro-gel masks, I might think twice, given the price tag. The sheet masks are the only product in the line that doesn’t contain the EGF serum in it, so I may be able to use another hydrating sheet masks instead. The hard part will be finding a good hydro-gel sheet mask to replace it with!

WHO CAN USE IT?

Anyone!

WHEN DO I USE THIS?

The EGF serum is recommended for night-time use. And I’ve only used the hydrogel mask after applying the EGF serum.

You can use the essence in the morning and evening.

PRICE:

EGF Serum – $160

EGF Essence – $99

Imprinting Hydrogel Masks – $85 (for a set of 6 masks) / $16 for one mask

Great article Dana. Who knew skincare would make me wish I had paid more attention in science class, lol. This is very cool and intriguing to me as I always wonder if the things a lot of these companies claim their products can do is true. I’m looking forward to your review of the other items you’re trying out. As for the serum it sounds like a worthy investment. Sure the price is a bit high but when you think of the alternative, surgery, it’s a drop in the bucket. ?

Thank you Karen. with so much marketing around the beauty industry, you have to be careful. My goal is that I’m able to help people make more educated decisions when purchasing products and creating routines.
