Skincare Swaps for Winter Weather

Winter weather can take a toll on our skin. The weather change and dry indoor temperatures from heaters can zap our skin’s moisture. Here are 3 adjustments to make to your skincare regimen to help guard your skin against winter weather.

1. ADD A CREAM CLEANSER.

Our skin is already lacking moisture. Since cream cleansers are gentler and have moisture built right in, adding them to your weekly regimen ensures you won’t strip your skin of natural oils. I am currently enjoying the Biologique Recherche’s Lait VIP O2 cleanser. It feels great but I am looking into their Lait U cleanser since its a cheaper option.

2. SWAP OUT THE LIGHTWEIGHT MOISTURIZER FOR A RICHER ONE.

If your face feels tight or you have dry patches at the end of the day, you should look into a richer moisturizer. Look for one that contains fatty acids and ceramides to help your skin lock in moisture and maintain its protective barrier.

If you don’t like wearing a heavier formula during the day, switch out your PM moisturizer for something richer to nourish your skin while you sleep. I like Youth To The People’s Adaptagen Deep Moisture Cream during the day. I am also trying out the Drunk Elephant’s Lala Retro Whipped cream.

Protecting winter skin isn’t just for your face. If your body soaks up lotion, look for a richer formula to give the skin a good moisture barrier. I love shea butter for the body! In addition to shea butter, I love the Shea Nut Oil from Now Solutions and Kiehl’s Creme de Corps lotion. And I layer my body moisturizers with oils like jojoba, sesame, and avocado.

3. WEAR MORE EMOLLIENT LIP PRODUCTS.

Cold weather can bring dry, chapped, and/or cracked lips. Our lips are more susceptible to drying out because they don’t contain oil glands, so it can’t replenish its own moisture. Make sure to exfoliate your lips and always have a moisturizing balm handy to protect them. I use Fresh Beauty’s Brown Sugar Lip Scrub to exfoliate my lips. And I use Drunk Elephant’s Lippe Balm as a chapstick, although I wish there was more product for $18.
