welcome to
BEAUTY IN COLOR

A place where Black women learn to care for their skin with clarity, confidence, and results.

the founder

Hi, I’m Dana

Skincare educator, eczema advocate, and the founder of Beauty In Color.

I was diagnosed with eczema in my teenage years, and if you know, you know: having melanin-rich skin that’s also sensitive and eczema-prone is a journey. A frustrating one. I tried products that promised glow but left my skin irritated. I followed skincare advice that clearly wasn’t made with skin like mine in mind. And I watched content that made sensitive skin seem simple, when my reality was anything but.

I kept asking myself:
Where is the honest skincare education for Black women like me?

So I did what I always do when something isn’t working...I got curious and intentional. I started paying close attention to my skin. I learned how ingredients actually affect sensitive, melanin-rich skin. I slowed down my routines. I asked a lot of questions. Over the years, I’ve had countless conversations with dermatologists, estheticians, and wellness experts, and I learned how to separate marketing hype from what truly supports healthy skin and a strong skin barrier.

At first, all of this was just for me. I kept notes. I tracked reactions. I documented what worked, what didn’t, and why. But the more I shared my experience, the more I realized how many women (especially Black women) were dealing with the same confusion around skincare, eczema, and aging skin, often without guidance they could trust.

That’s how Beauty In Color was born in 2018.

What started as a personal outlet grew into a skincare education platform for Black women who want to understand their skin, care for it long-term, and make confident decisions without feeling overwhelmed. Over the years, I’ve tested hundreds of products, built trusted relationships with respected skincare brands, and partnered only with companies that prioritize thoughtful, science-backed formulations. I don’t share everything I try, only what earns a real place in my routine.

Beauty In Color isn’t about trends or chasing the next launch. It’s about protecting the skin barrier, supporting aging skin, and building routines that actually make sense for real life, especially in our 30s, 40s, and beyond.

This is a space where skincare is explained clearly and honestly. Where melanin-rich skin is the starting point, not an afterthought. And where education feels empowering, not overwhelming.

I’m still learning. I’m still testing. I’m still asking questions. And I’m bringing you with me every step of the way, sharing what I’ve learned so you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

If you’ve ever felt confused by skincare, burned by products that didn’t work, or wished for guidance that actually feels made for you — you’re in the right place. Thanks for being here.

But honestly? For a long time, I was just a woman trying to figure her skin out.
